Our Mission and Values

Mission Statement

Pursuing transforming relationships with God, each other, and our community

Our Values

Everything we value flows out of our relationship with Jesus Christ.  (Colossians 3:1-4)

Scriptural Passion:

We uphold the importance of a Biblical focus as we study the Scriptures, the revealed Word of God for us. Through the Scripture we can know God and His Son Jesus Christ, in whom we live empowered by the Holy Spirit.  (2 Timothy 3:15-17)

Authentic Relationships:

We are all about significant relationships. This is the way we live as the body of Christ at Salem Road. We are committed to living in real fellowship with God and each other.  (Hebrews 10:24-25)

Love Expressed in Outreach:

We are devoted to loving God and sharing that love. We spread God’s love to those beyond our church through evangelism and mission so that they may also know the grace, glory, and love of our Lord Jesus Christ.  (2 Corinthians 5:14,17-20)

Equipping of the Believers:

We embrace the significance of encouraging our people to grow deeper in relationship to Jesus Christ. For it is only as we develop in discipleship, knowing and obeying God, that we will live like Jesus, using our gifts to serve one another.  (Ephesians 4:11-13)

Ministry Involvement:

We emphasize the need to be involved in making our community and world a better place to live through our actions and participation. God calls us to live with more than just ourselves in focus. We do this by getting involved in ministry to others.  (Ephesians 2:10)

Our History

In the fall of 1976, a small group of believers from Rochester Covenant Church committed to planting a new church on the southwest side of town.  We are alive today because of our common faith in Jesus Christ and our desire to bring His good news to our community and our world.

Our Denomination

We are a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church, a rapidly growing multi-ethnic denomination of more than 875 congregations in the United States and Canada with ministries on five continents of the world. Together, we join God in God's mission to see more disciples among more populations in a more caring and just world. Our church is part of the Northwest Conference of the denomination. Our Faith

We affirm the central teachings of the historic Christian church – such as belief in one God eternally existing in three persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – and that Jesus Christ is both fully God and fully man, and both Lord and Savior.

We affirm the primary emphases of the Protestant Reformation – that personal salvation is by grace alone through faith alone (not by human effort), God’s Word [the Bible] is sovereign over all creeds, and the priesthood of all believers.

We also affirm the historical Evangelical emphasis on biblical authority, the necessity of experiencing new life in Jesus Christ, the ongoing need for biblical instruction and spiritual growth, and Jesus’ mandate to his church to share his gospel, demonstrate his love, and pursue justice in our community and around the world.

Our Fellowship

We believe that being a part of the Church encourages caring relationships and the use of spiritual gifts with an emphasis on growing in faith, hope, and love. In doing this, we will not divide ourselves over secondary issues; we will strive not to be stumbling blocks to those growing in Christ; and we will gladly set aside our freedoms for the sake of our weaker brothers and sisters.
